I am sorry to hear about your situation. Didn't the law office tell you earlier that they were going to add the attorney fees? I mean if you have the contract in writing before starting the repayments, the attorney fees must have been clearly specified over there. If they didn't mention it earlier, it's their fault and you are not responsible to pay the charges. This deal can be negotiated if you have something in writing and they can be put in the weaker side. I will advise you to talk to a debt counselor who can do the negotiations for you. You can give a start by registering in this website also. Someone will call you back.

Check with your state's attorney general's office and make sure they are allowed to add attorney fees. Some states have rules about when and how much can be added. If they do take you to court, you will probably be allowed to make even smaller monthly payments.

Talk to a debt counselor about this situation because most of them offer free counseling. However, signing for the program is another part if your situation really needs it. If you are unable to negotiate with the companies on your own, the counselor will do the needful for you. Most of the times, the collectors use aggressive collections on the people who have defaulted on their accounts. If you involve a counselor in this case, he will do all the arrangements and you can keep yourself outside the matter.
