Received at call at my job and was told that I owed money to Moneyline and I had closed my account and would be charged with writing a bad check. Help! I don't want to send money to these people and then be asked years down the line for more money.

Don't get intimidated. The collection agencies use some of their favorite scary words to get money from the people. In most cases, the accounts appear to be disputed because of incorrect information received by them. The federal laws state that the CA must send you the debt validation in writing within 5 days of the first phone call. Review the account thoroughly and see if the charges put in it are posted correctly. If you don't get anything in the mail, send a debt validation from your side and cover your legal side. The federal laws will offer you the protection from sending money to the wrong company if this is an illegal collection. It will be helpful for you to go through the FTC website regarding the debt validation process.

I talked to the guy and he sounded legit and I did however ask for all the information in writing. What can they really do? He asked personal questions about me, which can be accessed by my credit report. Should I ask for this debt in writing, because I think some laws were violated.

Thanks, I will do just that. I read in another thread where this person new account with another bank was debited for the money she supposedly owed? What should I do about new account information?
