I received a letter from Encore claiming they were representing Capitla One about an MBNA account that they claimed to now have. Encore never had it. Capitol One never had it. Encore lied. Doesn' t our government in Washington ever go after these people who prey on the general population. They are involved in fraud and identity theft but because they are a big corporation who make political campaign donations and have lobbyists and special interest groups, nothing is ever done to these people. Where does this leave the people who are constantly threatened and harassed by these people? We sure could use some help somewhere. If not in this country then maybe overseas?

My words exactly. You can report it but nothing will be done. These comapnies have more money than you and can afford laywers. Just keep a constant eye on your credit file... its all you can really do.

..But there has to be a solution and these illegal things must stop. There have been a few collection agencies who were penalized by the govt. in the recent past. The authorities took action only when they reviewed large number of complaints against a particular CA. The FTC and the BBB website have an online complaint form where these actions should be reported. The authorities can only come into action when they have received complaints in bulk against a particular CA. Also, keep reporting to the SAG office because that's the good place to begin with.
