I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out which option in dealing with my credit card debt is best for my situation. I am sure its similar to many other people on here, but I need some personal attention. Thanks for any help.

Let me talk to you in this matter? How much is the total amount of your debt? You can finalize a consolidation program or a settlement program as per your financial situation. each of these programs will offer you lower monthly payments and interest rates will also be brought down than what you are paying to your creditors at present. The total debt will be reduced significantly.

Each of these programs has their own approach. Go through these pages as it will help you in understanding the program better. If you have any queries, ask.

Depending upon your financial situation and after analyzing the affect in your credit report, you can choose the program as per your needs.

Thanks for the info...thats what I was looking for. I basically racked up $20,000 in credit card debt, got that consolidated through MBNA and am making one payment to them...meanwhile I've racked up another $20,000 in credit card debt while only having paid off around $3,000 from the first consolidation. So I'm in a $37,000 dollar hole and can't seem to get out/stop spending. I need to cut up my cards, cancel them, and swear off of them for good. I'm trying to keep my head above water, but starting to have difficulties with late payments and over limit fees. I need some suggestions. Will consolidation work for me? I'd like to keep my credit report clean if at all possible.

Yes, try the counseling and discuss your accounts with the consultant. He will frame your payment plans as per your financial situation. If you can make the consolidation payments each month, this will do good to your credit at the later stage after the accounts are paid off. You can also put the accounts with highest balance in the settlement plan. It will bring the total amount to half after negotiations with your credit companies. Use the program as per your situation after discussing with the counselor.

dcashwell3, is your computer OK now? What type of tech problems you had. Let me know if I can help there.

It's OK now but it was acting like it was pirated. Anyway, rjacobs2006, DCC works like a referal service. When you signed up it took all your info and began matching you to a company in your area that would meet your needs. Give it a couple of days someone should be contacting you soon. Keep an eye on your email, you may need to whitelist certain email addresses.

Why would a credit card company just say, "You owe me $20,000, but I'll accept $10,000."

The credit card company wants their money back. If they don't accept your proposal especially when you have not done the payments for a long time, the debt might run out of the SOL period. If this happens, you can refuse to pay them anything legally. Besides, instead of posting the account as bad debt in their books, most companies will often accept a sound negotiation. Moreover, I personally feel that credit card companies don't like hiring collection agencies. But if the situation demands, they have to do in order to get their money back. The counselor will explain everything to you clearly. Meanwhile, if you have queries, clear them up.

As per my understanding by now, DCC picks the company from their system in your area. You enter your name, phone number and email address here and after the sign up is done, the name of the counseling company is sent to your email. They are the ones who will take care of your accounts if you enroll in their consolidation program. The ranking chart is put here.
