Can you provide some more background into eh nature of the debt? IF the debt was owed to the federal government, then yes, they can go after your disability benefits. IF it is a private debt (say a credit card) , then I don't *think* they can. They cannot go ofter your Social Security disability for private debt, so I would think that VA disability would be the same.

You need to contact the government department that dispurses VA benefits, I am sure they can tell you if that is legal or not. Also, your state attorney general's office would definitely be able to answer that question.
