If a judgment has already been filed, you will have to confirm with the consolidation company if they can offer their services. I heard most companies don't consolidate if a judgment has already been filed. However, you must confirm this information with a debt counselor if they can work with you.

Adding to my previous post, if the court date has not been fixed yet and you are trying to settle the matter with the company, the counselor can arrange negotiations with the company and try to withdraw the case from the court. You need to talk with the counselor about it.

Actually..You can make arrangements after the judgements have been filed..This is called "reasonable accomidations" you would have to pay extra fees due to court costs, though. There is also a tort that you may file to see a magistrate, which, if nothing else, buys you time.
I file several writs of garnishments a week..And I'd say at least a quarter of them get reduced...I've seen a couple eliminated.

Adding to my previous post..There's not a thing in the world you can do about the black mark on your credit report, though..Once a judgement is filed in the district court it's there, even if they choose not to honor it.
Also..A consolidation company is usually(not always, but usually) NOT the best way to deal with a garnishment. You only have 28 days from the birth of the writ before the payments have to be taken out of your check..This is a $5000 fine if your payroll dept does not honor it. usually there just isn't enough time to consolidate it...And once the deductions start it's very difficult to stop.
