Help. I want to pay off my debts
Date: Mon, 08/07/2006 - 08:06
My name is Larry Dustin and I need help - soon. Please bear with me for a moment, I’d like to tell you my story.
A year and a half ago, I lost my beautiful wife of 36 years - very unexpectedly. She had been given an all clear on the colon cancer she had been battling. During that time we went through all the money we had saved and much more on credit cards. I had gone back to work full time and we weren’t having any trouble with the payments.
Then on February 22nd, 2005, we were sharing a laugh on our lanai and decided to go in the kitchen and start dinner. As we stood up, she had an aneurysm burst, fell into a coma and passed away 3 days later. Two weeks after being given a clean bill of health from cancer.
I was completely devastated and just ran away from life I paid no attention to any bills or anyone.
Long story, short, the interest charges skyrocketed and my bills went out of sight. I have recently gone back to work and want to live again.
The first step was to try to make arrangements with 4 creditors - I have with 3 of them and as a matter of fact just completed the settlement with one of them. The fourth account would not halt the interest charges, making it impossible for me to ever pay off the debt. It is in the hands of a collection agency and they are looking for a payoff of about $12,000 dollars (the total amount is $20,000, including 29% interest charges). I don’t have saved money to do that. I have offered to pay $350/mo for 4 years to own up to my responsibility - that is still way in excess of the amount they are asking for, but they want the full amount up front.
Is there anything you can do for me? Please!
Thank you for your time.
Larry L. Dustin
