Bankruptcy stays on your credit report for 10 years. So in 2008
Bankruptcy stays on your credit report for 10 years. So in 2008 your bankruptcy should come off your report.

Is the Bankruptcy removed on it's own by the credit report companies or do you have to contact them to remove it in ten years?

Normally shortly after the ten year mark it automatically drops
Normally shortly after the ten year mark it automatically drops off. But if for some reason it doesn't you can have it removed with proof that it has been ten years.
Bankruptcy Removal
It was in October 1996 i filed bankruptcy. I assume that on the filing date of this month it will be removed. My question is "Will my credit score increase at all?"
