I filed for bankruptcy in 1998, and even though it's been 8 years now, it's still on my report. I'm house hunting and my mortgage guy said it's not a huge deal since it's been several years now, but I'm just curious if this will ever be completely removed from my report. I heard after 7 it should come off, but then I heard 10. Which is right? And if it's 7, who do I contact to get it off my report? Advice?

Sue

Is the Bankruptcy removed on it's own by the credit report companies or do you have to contact them to remove it in ten years?
Thank you!!!

It was in October 1996 i filed bankruptcy. I assume that on the filing date of this month it will be removed. My question is "Will my credit score increase at all?"
