Has anyone heard of this, what I am sure is a collection agency, in their travels?

I don't know who they are calling on behalf of as I don't owe anyone anything outstanding.. They have been calling at least 3 x a day for the last few days including 2 x yesterday, Saturday of all days.

Any feedback?

JB

I wonder if the collection agencies can do their business legitimately. I hear most of them having contacting people without any legitimate purpose. In some cases, it can be a mistake while locating the actual person, but they should stop their actions once they have been notified with the real reasons.

Use your legal rights directed under the fdcpa laws. Send a debt validation letter to the company and get the details of the accounts in writing for which they are contacting you. You should also mention that all legitimate correspondences must be done with you in writing only. They must cease and desist communication over the phone. Send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested for legal proof of your actions.

You can also record the phone calls for legal proof and take strong actions against the company. Do check the state laws before recording the calls. In some states, you will have to notify the other party about the recording being done. 35 states in US allow secretly recording the phone calls.

An addendum to the remark about secretly recording phone calls - that only applies to the calls in which the person recording the conversation is also a party to the conversation. No state permits secretly recording the calls of other people, and it's a felony everywhere to (1) make the recording, (2) be in possession of the "fruits" of the recording (either taped or transcript, etc.), and (3) to "use" the "fruits" of the recording for any purpose.

Apparently, the folks over at the NSA haven't heard about the Wiretapping, Eavesdropping, and Electronic Surveillance Act yet.
