Can a storefront pay lender take you to court for
nonpayment? They took a check up front, but I could not pay.It has been a while and I have not heard anything.I live in Maryland?

Hi Guest

The state laws are different in each state. Check the laws in your state if a store front lender can file a case if you default on a loan. In most of the states, a store front lender has these legal rights and garnishes the wages. Writing a bad check is not illegal and the lender cannot take you to the court.

It will be better to contact the lender and offer a realistic payment. If you have a legitimate debt, paying it off will be mostly recommended.
