Bump in the road: Plat B/United Federal Bank
Date: Wed, 05/17/2006 - 13:36
So...finally heard from the collection agency handling my Platinum B loan...the infamous United Federal Bank. Very rude...and breaking federal collection laws left and right. They picked the wrong chickie to screw with too: I'm an attorney and know the laws and my rights :)!
Called I-collect and finally heard from them last week...told me who was handling my account and gave me a phone/extension to call. Left several messages, but never heard a thing back. Finally get a call today from some guy with a thick Indian accent I could barely understand.
Long story short...
They threatened to file suit on me if I didn't pay $580 today. On a $200 loan...don't think so, buddy! Asked them to validate the debt as I could see owing up to $300 for the loan, interest, and NSF fee. But $580?!?! They would not validate, nor would they give me an address or FAX to send a debt verification letter. Then they wished me luck and hung up.
Filed complaints with the FTC and Florida AG immediately...and am thinking of doing so with the Texas AG for grins. Creeps! I am perfectly willing to pay what I owe, but not one cent more!! What should my next step be? I am betting they won't file suit, but I don't want this to drag on forever, either. I should have known it was all going too well and something would be a hitch :)!

Have you tried working out with Platinum B in this regard? I gue
Have you tried working out with Platinum B in this regard? I guess they will be a lot easier to deal with.
The collection agencies are violating the federal laws as per the fdcpa. You have done right by reporting them to the FTC and the AG's office. Check your credit report to find out if they have reported negatively in your file. If they don't have your info, they can't enter any remarks in your file. Be aware of your rights and contact the original creditor to work out an arrangement. Be sure to check the SOL as well.
