And so I've been receiving harrassing calls at work from a man named Jack Jordan. He says that he's calling on behalf of STATES RECOVERY COLLECTION AGENCY. Has anyone heard of them? Or heard anything of them? Anyway, he was calling in regards to a debt I supposely "owed" and I told him I was busy (I'm at work for Christ sakes) and asked him if he can send me paperwork to verify the debt and to not call my work. He refused and insisted that I stayed on the phone with him to talk about settling the debt. At that moment, I couldn't, then he started to get really rude with me so I hung up on him. Next thing you know, he's calling my manager (making up a fake name), trying to verify my employment and get personal information from me. How do I get this to stop? He calls me at work EVERYDAY!!! Thing is, I'm not allowed to receive personal phonecalls at work!

Be aware of your legal rights. This collector is doing many things that violate the federal laws. Go through the FDCPA2 laws and challenge him with the details of the debt account in writing. He is bound to follow the federal laws.

I also assume that this person is not making a genuine collection. He should have given you something in writing within 5 days after placing the initial communication.

This person is using scary techniques to get your money. Don't pay anything until you know the credit company for which he is collecting. It will also be good if you don't make any commitment at this time.

Send a debt validation letter in writing through certified mail with return receipt requested. This will cover your legal approach and the person will be forced to comply with the fdcpa.
