I found on my CR a listin for a gateway charge-off and unifund/gateway charge-off. I am assuming this unifund is a CA. My question is can they report like this on the same debt? Or is it considered 2 seperate accounts? I am trying to clear up my credit and want to consolidate. I want to diapute this and have contacted unifund via their voicemail and asked for a debt validation letter, should I try to do the same with gateway? This is for one PC I was paying on 4 years ago and would like to take care of this debt and try to clean up my report9s0 as well. Any help here. I know they cannot list a debt twice, but is this the same thing? Thanks.

I meant to put this one in credit repair. Sorry about that.

Hi krazykoot

Two collection agencies cannot report for the same account in your credit report. You need to get the debt validated from the CA authorized for this collection. What is the name of the original credit company? You can inquire about this account and make payment arrangements with them.

When you send a debt validation letter to the CA, make sure that it is sent through certified mail with return receipt requested. This will ensure that they have received your request and must provide the complete details before attempting further collections.
