What are my options for dealing with harrassment?

I'm willing to make arrangements to make small payments, but the representatives that contact me are so rude and harsh that conversations usually end with me so angry and near tears that I just hang the phone up in the representative's face. Now, I don't answer the phone at all. Seriously, if I had the money to pay it all overnight, I wouldn't have the debt in the first place!
I really don't want to deal with ACS anymore. Is it possible for me to contact Citibank and make arrangements with them? Even though I do owe the debt, can I still send letter to ACS to demand them to stop calls?

You can contact the creditor and explain to them what the collection agency is doing and see if arrangments can be made thru the original creditor. Send them a cease and desist letter certified mail with return receipt. I would also file a complaint against them for harassment.

Citi Bank isn't going to pull the account back. They will refer you back to the collection agency. Sending a cease and decist letter is a good idea however be prepared for another agency to be calling wihin the next week.

Hi Renae
I am sorry to hear about your situation. Try calling Citibank and work out arrangements with them. If they accept your proposal, you won't have to deal with the CA.
After numerous attempts, if you fail to arrange a payment proposal with Citibank, use your legal rights dealing with ACS. They are a collection agency and must follow the federal laws. Do not face their humiliation. Read the FDCPA and know your options while dealing with them.
The first step while making collections is to validate the debt in writing. Has ACS send you the details in writing? You will be sure that they are the ones authorized for this collection and your money will be going to the right place. Keep all your correspondences documented for proof.

You have my sympathies having to deal with Academy. Be prepared that if you do make payment arrangement that after 1 payment they will probably try to tell you its not good enough and harass you some more.
Not sure if the people who made my life miserable still work there, but be careful dealing with Aaron Ridge, if you hang up on him he will call you back just to curse you out. I also have the name Sean Emory written down, my guess is, its written down so he must "made my day" also.. LOL
I sent them a cease and desist letter back in Jan. and have now been turned over to Gerald E. Moore, who in my opinion is just as bad as Academy.
Good luck!!
