Does anyone know the SOL for collecting a debt in California? It's been 8 years since the last payment was made. If we don't pay the debt how long will it show? We want to buy a house someday.

The Statute of limitations in California for legally collecting the debt is:

Written Contracts : 4 years and
Oral Contracts : 2 years.

Since you have not paid anything towards this account in the last 8 years, it is way out of the SOL period. I also believe that this account should be automatically removed from your file as it is past the 7 years reporting time as per the FCRA.

The reporting of this account in your credit file begins from the date of first delinquency. Dispute with the bureaus and get this item removed from your file. Your future lenders will get the accurate picture of your credit worthiness.
