I received a call from 303-294-5202 yesterday and when I called it back, it stated that the number had been disconnected or was no longer in service. I tried again and the same response. Does anyone have any clue if this is a new tactic by collection agencies?

It happens with me usually. I pick up 40 - 50 calls in my job each day. I can see the number in the caller ID and know whether they are blocked. Sometimes we need to call back when requested. I read one number before picking it up and the lady also gave me her number to call back. Suddenly, the line got disconnected in the middle of the conversation. I tried to reach the number and it appeared disconnected. I tried for several times later but never got through.

It is easy to "spoof" caller id numbers (i.e., make any number appear in the caller id that you want to appear). Also, some businesses have specific inbound and outbound lines - someone calling from the business would have the outbound number appear in caller id, but if you tried to call it back, it would not work - because it is specifically set up to only handle outbound calls. Companies do this to handle and route heavy call volumes.

hah?!! weird..i am gettin lotsa calls from people i do not know... sometimes i dont pick up anymore phone calls. first of all theyre not on my contacts list. so i dont bother. plus majority phone calls thats like out of state are telemarketings, scams etc...sometimes i pick up, i end up talking to some weird people...u can tell its a scam call. sometimes they will leave me a vmail on my cell, its about some stuffs you dont know about. i always get a phone call about a vehicle warranty, when I DO NOT have a car myself..cause i do not know how to drive..wth right?! lolz. also i get phone calls showin their #s but then when i return their phone calls its like a fax machine sound that it hurts my ears and sometimes the operator guy tells me i gotta check the #..it is wrong # or not a working # and yeh..is not in service...

what is going on these days..???!!!

yeah-maybe they need more lawsuits to make enough profit to pay phone bill? or maybe its the 300% increase in fdcpa violations filings that is hurting 'em..oh well, maybe their debt will be sold, and resold, and thrown through the cycle and i personally would laugh...

Hi Cel,

Those calls are probably for the person who had the number before you. It's always best to specifically request a number that has not been in circulation for over 6 months.

Hi hsanidad08,

What is going on is the ship of state is sinking from the weight of fake money and false promises and the rats are flooding out to see what they can devour (including each other). It's really crazy right now.

Paul Sibel allegedly said: "Oh how the jackals run wild when famine strikes the land....". I really like that, it says it well...

And, if even 25% of those wronged by CAs, etc., actually fought for their rights and sued for FDCPA violations, the $1000 fines will drain them and either force them to close, or grow up and act like businessmen and not scav-engers.....

I got a call yesterday (may 2, 2011) from 443-743-2796 and when I answered they hung up and when i called back it said the number was disconnected. Today I received another phone call from a not so different number, 443-743-2797. When I answered the same thing happened, no answer and when I called back the message said it was a disconnected number. I have no idea what this is, but im expecting a call tomorrow from 443-743-2798 and if Im right about the pattern I may just contact the police about it.

A bill was passed called the "Truth in Caller ID Act of 2010" that makes these sort of calls ILLEGAL! Just tell them that they are in violation of the "Truth in Caller ID Act of 2010" and tell them that it IS ILLEGAL.
