I am terminating from my current place of employment. I currently have a $2000 balance on the corporate credit card they issued to me. I used to travel a lot for them, and that is why I was issued the card. I made some personal charges, but always paid the bill when it came in. Now that I won't be working, I won't be able to pay the $2000.00. The company doesn't know about the personal charges yet, but what action can they take when they find out? Since it is a corporate credit card, I don't think they could have me arrested or press charges, can they??

Are you going to be receiving a final paycheck? They'll probably deduct it from that. They can't have you arrested, I know that for sure, but it's possible they could take you to court and get a judgement for the remaining portion. But I'm sure they'd try to collect it from you first. You may want to talk to them and set up arrangements.

This may not sound very nice but why would you use a corporate credit card for personal items? I cannot imagine doing that but maybe it's just me. If I were you I would definitely be honest and upfront about it and maybe they will give you a chance to set up arrangements on it. Sorry I just don't understand.

Thanks Jessi. This is a VERY large company, and I have been working in their payroll department. I have never seen them take anyone to court over an overpayment of earnings, so I wouldn't think they would go to all the trouble for $2000.00 on my corporate card. I just wanted to make sure that by making those charges I didn't break any laws, and they couldn't press any charges or anything like that.

No offense but you work in payroll and you used a company credit card to charge personal items? Even if it is a large company I would think that payroll is close enough to human resources to know that this is wrong. You may not have broken laws but you need to be up front with them and let them know what happened before you leave. I'm sorry if my tone or words offend you but I just don't understand why you would do this. :(

I was/am in a terrible financial situation, and used this card for food and gas. I know it is not right, and up until now I have been able to keep the bill current, and have never missed a payment. I fully intend to attempt to make payment arrangements with the bank (where the card was issued), but I just wanted to see what options the company has...

Frassy-you have to go to your place of employment and have a straight talk with them before they find out about it first. Trying to explain and say you were wrong is a whole lot different than trying to get out of it and justify it when they find out first.I'm like Jessi-I think they will probably take it out of your final check orseverance package,if you get one. If you have been a good employee, they may work out something with you,but you have to come forward first and own up,chances are, they may even forgive part of it....Karen
