I just pulled off my equifax credit report however every single account has the last five numbers of each account marked out with X's. I have been thankful for this site because now I can send a collection agency a request for verification of debt, however, how I am supposed to write the letter if I don't have the complete account number for the collection agency to reference??? I called Equifax and they told me that I need to call the collection agency and give them my information for them to give me the account. This sounds like it'll backfire on me. I can't be the only person out there trying to send a verification letter to a collection agency using an equifax credit report. What do I do?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi ltrain

Welcome to the forums. First of all, I will like to thank you for appreciating the hard work of this site. All of us in this site are engaged in the noble deed to provide continuous help to relieve the tensions of the consumers due to their debt related problems.

Looking into your problem, I will suggest you to pick your credit report from the other two bureaus also to see if the incorrect entries are not reflected in those reports.

After you have done so and found the particular entry to be incorrect, please fill the dispute form that is sent with your credit report. Over there, you can specify about your missing account number for correspondence with your collection agency. The credit bureau will pass it on to the credit grantor or the public record office that will look out for the rectification of the errors. They will notify you within 30 days and inform you about the change.

Hi Itrain

Welcome to the forums

The credit report which has been supplied to you by Equifax contains account number whose last five digits is crossed out. The problem which you are facing now can be dealt with by adopting three options:

a.you can complain to the federal trade commission

b.hire an attorney

c.add a statement to your file.

The above steps will help you to resolve your problem.

Hope to hear from you soon

Regards
Peter
