what should i do when a credit bureau is not deleting a particular entry which i feel is incorrect? Any advice will be most appreciable.

Hi Donald

Welcome to the forums. Before you make any move, it is advisable to check your credit report from the other two bureaus also to confirm the said error.

After you have compared all the three reports and found the entry to be in error, you can request the bureau to reinvestigate the inaccurate entry as it definitely seems to have error.

Most probably, after re-investigation is done, the incorrect entry will be deleted and you will be notified about it.

However, in certain cases, if you do not reach to any conclusion with the bureau, you can contact the creditor who provided the information to the bureau. You can send a letter to them requesting for verification as it has been wrongly reported to the bureau. Upon verification, they will do the needful to delete the wrong entry from your credit report.

I can understand that you must have worked very hard by now for correcting the wrong entry. After your hard work, if you still have not got positive results, you are legally allowed to add a 100 word statement to your credit report. Be very sure to write short and up to the mark so that your message is understood properly by anyone who requests for your credit history.

I hope this entry in question will most probably get deleted from your credit report soon. Please let us know how we can assist you further in any of your other queries.

Regards
Roxette

Did you go through the formal process that requires them to conduct an investigation on your inquiry? If not, that may be a reason why they are able to quickly dismiss your inquiry without further investigation.

Because in an actual investigation, they would have to verify the inaccurate entry with your creditor and then they would have to send that evidence to you. If they have not done that or if your have not undergone the formal process, I would suggest that you start at that point.

You should write a letter to the Credit Reporting Agency concerning your dispute. Tell the Credit Reporting Agency, in writing, what you feel is inaccurate.

The Credit Reporting Agency must investigate your claim within 30 days. After the creditor receives information concerning your dispute, it must investigate the matter and return the details of that investigation to the credit reporting agency.

If they do indeed find a disputed item to be inaccurate, it must notify all nationwide Credit Reporting Agencies so that they can correct this information in your file.

After you finish this process, if they still refuse to remove the item, you can ask the credit reporting agency to include your statement about the disputed item in your credit report. For a fee, this statement could also be sent to anyone who requested your credit report in the past.
