Since I moved to Indiana almost 4 years ago, I have had a call once a year from someone claiming to be soliciting donations from the Indiana State Fraternal of Police. The first year I did it because I just moved in the state and I wanted to make a good impression. The next year and following I got wary. Also,I was laid off and needed the spare money. This is when my suspicions started. The man who called became REALLY aggressive and abusive when I told him I was laid off and couldn't afford much. A few times I sent in a check to get him ofrf my back. He kept trying to get me to give more and more. No matter what said appeased him. Another red flag - this year they changed tactics and hired a soft - spoken, friendly woman to do the solicitation. Another red flag was when I went to the website of the Indiana FOP, it gave the address as 1416 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 40201. The woman who called sent me information with an address of: Fraternal Order of Police of Indiana, PMB 327, 4319 W. Clara Lanes, Muncie, Indiana 47304 - 5470.
The local police didn't know if it was legit when I showed them the form. They said that it looked legit. I'm ashamed to say that al told, I must have sent them $60. Now, I have a computer and I can do Internet checking.
