Can a debt collector take your home or force you to take out a mortage if you owe on a credit card debt. And can they call more than one time a day if you do not answer the phone?

Hi Kimberly
Welcome to the forums

If you have any credit card debt then a debt collector cannot take away your house or force you to have a mortgage. Besides they cannot call you over phone and harass you. The federal law known as the Fair Debt Collection and Practices Act (fdcpa) has laid down strict rules and regulation regarding the collection practices of the debt collectors.

If the debt collectors resorts to unfair means or threats you in any manner then they are subject punishment under the said act. So please do not be afraid. If they try harass you over phone then you can register your phone number in the National Do Not Call Registry. In addition you can lodge a complain in FTC. Please do not stress yourself out.

Hope to hear from you soon

Regards
Peter
