Monther-in-law huge debt
My mother-in-law (nearly 80 and not all that well) who is currently living with her daughter is going into a living facility. During the time she was living with 'these people' she has racked up $50,000 in credit card debt spurred on by them. Currently she is paying nearly half her income, approximately $960 a month in payments, has not been late and has good credit. She is selling her car and timeshares which means she will not have one asset. She wants to pay her bills but needs help negotiating with her largest creditors. She will be paying off her car ($3,000) and about $10,000 or more in credit cards. She does need help with the remaining ones since her expenses will be greater at this living facility. Does your company help in this type of circumstance or does someone have to be a deadbeat? Her income is $2477, most of which is earmarked for the facility, health care etc. She wants to pay her debt. Barbara Callan Andreu
Is she willing to file criminal charges against "those people".
Is she willing to file criminal charges against "those people". That just doesn't seem right!
Try negotiating with your creditor
Offer lump sum amount and get a better deal. Always paying in full is not a possibility, so try other means to solve debts.

Hi Barbara
Welcome to the forums. A proper negotiation with your creditor will help in settling this debt. Since your mother in law will be using her assets to pay this debt off, consider your other options in the later time.
Your mother in law should enroll herself for a free counseling with this website and know her available options. She needs to shape up things thinking in the long run.
