I have a credit card that is in collections and the company has offered me a settlement amount. I don't have the money to pay it out-right, so how do I get a loan for that amount even if I have bad credit?

Sakidwell, my opinion to you is that when you are in the way to settle your debt, make sure of how the agency will be reporting your accounts to the credit bureaus. Anything less than 'paid in full' or 'paid as agreed' is considered to be harmful in an individual's credit file. Never agree for 'Settled' in your credit report as this will damage your ratings. Your future lenders will come to know that you have faced difficulties in the recent past in making payments and as a result, have not paid the complete amount.

Besides that, I will also not suggest you to go for a consolidation loan as you will have to pledge some property against the loan. If you fail in making payments, you might be at the risk of losing your property.

Conclusively, I will suggest you to try for a consolidation program as this will help you in making regular payments towards your debt. The consultant will negotiate with your creditors to reduce the total amount of your debt and ensure that your credit report gives a good financial standing.
