New tactic used to harass the consumers

I received a strange phone call he other day, It came from an 800 number. when I answered i got a recording asking if I was Me. If yes press 1, Like a moron, I pressed one (usually I won't answer calls from ANY number I don't know). It said transferring to a representative, then disconnected after about 20 seconds. I tried several times to call the 800 number back, and it didn't go anywhere, just silence for about 20 seconds, or would ring once, then disconnect.

I dont know who this is, but its a rather underhanded manner fo doing things....


It would suprise me if they still did it.

Also, keep in mind that 800 calls cost the sponsoring company money per call. So if you care to leave a message or do get a hold of someone -- let them know you'll continue to call them until they agree to stop calling you (which is perfectly legal). Inform them that each call will incur them a fee. It's worked for me in the past under simliar circumstances! :-)

By saying something like that to a company who could have a recording device could get you in trouble. They could use this against you by claming you're harassing their company.

I was simply just state to the company that you are the DNC list and ask to be removed from theirs. Inquire about how they got your number, and do file a complaint even though they have stopped calling. Even if they are not at fault, they should have known about the DNC list. They may provide their source to the investigation. It could take a couple days for your number to be removed again.
