just got out of military service and have substantial amount of debt

Hey joshua! Welcome to the boards!
There is atleast one other person on this board who was and kind of still is, in the same situation you are in now. I'm sure he'll respond to this one...just know you're NOT ALONE.

I thought it was ridiculous how the military doesn't REALLY take care of you once you get out. And it's even more tough when you get out unexpectedly.
It's tough to find a job immediately and get things back in order after being used to the military taking care of things for years.

You still can get out of debt, though. Try consolidating any loans you might have. YOu can do that via this site. One last stitch idea would be to join the reserves...but that's only if you really want to!
Post your resume on places like Monster, HotJobs, Careerbuilder....a lot of people are looking for prior military and especially if you specialize in a certain field.
Best of luck to you....I know how tough it is, because I dealt with it indirectly :-(

Joshua:

What branch of service were you in (if you dont mind me asking)? How long did you serve? And what were the conditions of your separation (ie. honorably discharged, OTH, RE1, RE3, etc). If you would rather private message me those details you can do that.

I am a Navy vet (of 5 years) and got out of the military honorably (re1) ... but definitely under some heat from my CO. My last command was extremely corrupt so I found a way to get out at 5yr2mo versus my 6yr EAOS.

After I hear some more from you (either here or in PM) I'll see what I can do to help you out. There are a lot of good people on this forum ... so stick around! :-)
