allied interstate called and asked for my husband ( who has a very common name) I told them he would be gone for several months, then they told me I need to contact him and have him get in touch with the rep. because it was a federal matter and very urgent. when I asked what kind of compnay they were and what it was regarding the rep said " I can not tell you that, it is a federal matter." through looking the phone number up I have discovered they are a collection agency ( we do not have any bad debts, credit repot I checked yesterday from the big 3 was clean and all bills are under MY name) So can they misrepresent themselves as a federal agency? And How can I get them to tell me what it is about since my husband is gone for months at a time and I really don not want these guys calling me every morning.


As you have checked your latest credit report and found it to be completely clean, you should talk to them strongly about sending in writing about the debt. As per the fdcpa law, Allied Interstate needs to validate the debt before the consumer pay it. If they are unable to provide any information, you can dispute with them.

Also, you can send a correspondence letter stating that you refuse to do any communication over the phone and will communicate through mail only. They are required to stop all the collection efforts after receiving your letter.
