I am on social security disability effective 06/05 due to a brain tumor and MS. I have one credit card with a $5000 balance I can't seen to get help with. I have tried to apply for a loan and was told this debt is not big enough. It is to me on disability but wouldn't be when I was working. Do you know of I way I can borrow at a smaller interest rate or get them to lower it? I can never work so I won't get an income tax return or bonus again. Any suggestions? Thank you

Cindy your situation is just like that of my uncle. He is in the same situation and it took almost two years for them to approve his SS disability. Have you tried applying for some government programs such as rent or something of that nature? I would register here so that one of the counselors can give you their expert advice on this. MY uncle has lung cancer and a brain tumor. He was able to get assistance in order to pay some of his debts, and I also helped him for helping babysit for me. I wish you luck!!!!

This social security system is simply disgusting. I'm sorry if this is a bit off topic, but people like this deserve their earned monies - and the government [it seems] enjoys screwing you the best they can. Two years? I mean, c'mon - you need the money now.

I wish you the best of luck, and you're in my prayers. Take care of yourself!

Okay, I think you guys misunderstood me. I am on social security as of three months ago. What you have to wait 2 years for is Medicare. I am getting frustrated because I am trying to get a loan for $5000 to pay off my only credit card. I am paying 18-22 percent interest and getting nowhere. A $5000 debt isn't much when earning around 40 a year but it is a lot when living on disability with no insurance. All I want is for the ceditor to give me a lower interest rate or a loan(lower interest)to pay it off. My bank won't do an unsecured loan for under 10,000. I just don't want to be stuck with this one debt for the rest of my life, especially if I have to use the card for medications sometimes. My bank actually tried to get me to get their credit card at a lower interest rate, I asked if it was locked in and of course she said no. So what in the world would the difference be?? I said, You aren't going to help me are you? No one plans to get sick, it's just one of those things we have to deal with. Such a small loan shouldn't be that difficult since my income will not change or go away, no layoffs, terminations, etc. The ironic thing is if I wanted to borrow 10 or 20 thousand it would be no problem?! Go figure, what's wrong with that picture?

Cindy, have you thought about a consolidation program. It will lower the rate of your interest and you will be offered some easy repayments.

I suggest you to try the advice of a consultant in this website by registering yourself in the sign up page. It will be more than helpful.
