I doubt the business operations of MBNA. They are one of those companies that does not pen down the agreement deed clearly. They keep tones of hidden charges on all the credit accounts. Suppose, if you use their credit line and due to some reasons, you miss your payments, you get a $200 extra charge and the interest will tower up to maximum of 59% in that month. This does not give a happy feeling to do business with such companies.

Yes, it will be a shocking or perhaps a crazy experience to see the billing statement. These types of things are usually happening with this company. Pay off the debt and cancel the account.
Even after maintaining the terms of agreement and making the minimum payments, the interest rate shoots for no reason at MBNA. I guess some unprofessional workers hampering the reputation of the company.
