My story
Date: Fri, 09/23/2005 - 21:27
My story is pretty simple.I was married with two wonderful children, and one day my husband decided he wanted to be with someone else.I survived ,but slowly the bills became to much to handle alone.I filed Bk and seemed to be doing find for awhile. Then my car broke down, the kids were growing and needed new clothes, taxes were do,so not thinking I took out my first payday loan, then the next, then the next until I had 4 total and no way to pay them off.I realize now, that I could have done without a car and made ends meet somehow.I am slowing pulling myself out of this mess, but it is really hard.I have a good job and make enough to live comfortable if I didnt have the payday loans. My debt is less than $5000 with credit cards and payday loans. It seems like such a small amount but it is biggest stress in my life.I know I can do this, but its hard making my children go without some of the small things they need.Well thats my story, someday I hope to update it with a happy ending. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day.May we all be someday debt free.

Hi
You have such a nice family and it seems that you forget all the pains in life when you see both the kids and the cats. I have no doubts that your kids will grow up as responsible citizens under your affectionate shelter.
These financial problems are like separating clouds. They don't last for long and will definitely pass away. Though, it might take some time, but it will have always taught you something precious in your life.
Take care of yourself and your kids and cats.

That is great to hear that you are pulling yourself together after everything you are going through. I do understand how hard it is to not be able to give your kids the little things. I have smaller kids (9,4,2) and it seems my love and time is enough for them.

Twokid, you've offered a LOT of very helpful information on this forum. I am very glad you have joined us!
My debt is also pretty small...but even the smallest debt can be the biggest stressor. I try to relieve my anxiety by not getting myself into even more debt. I knew a guy that was $32000 in the red...THAT'S bad.
Consider it all a learning experience. ANd hopefully your children will learn from it too. I wish you the best of luck!

TwokidTwoKat...you obviously have great kids, my debt is 10 times that amount but I try to look at it like this...someone else has much bigger problems than me (with my 3 dogs, 4 cats, Spanish Timbrado, 3 Rabbits, 2 Iguanas, and god knows how many kids depending on what day it is!!!)So focus on what's good in your life and just let that money go with a smile!!
Good Luck!!

It's true...debt does sometimes cause a headache. Some people just forget about the their debt problems, while slowly working to resolve it, and just keep smiling everyday. Till then, that's all you can really do. Thinking about it too much will only cause bigger problems in the long run. But starting today, learning that debt is something we should be serious about, will lead us to happier life in the long run.

Update to my story
Heres an update to my story.I called my bank today and had my account number changed,so that the payday loan people cant get my money,I was also afraid that Usa benefits would hit me again.I called all 3 of my payday loan lenders and made arrangments to make payments by money order.Quickpay day and Payday Ok were very nice, and are willing to take payments, but I will still have interest,so I will need to pay as much as I can, they also took my work number of thier records per my request :o The third one has not gotten back to me yet,Gecc, but since I have paid them over 2500 dollars in interest this past year,I am certain they will work something out.Even though Im still in debt,a huge burden has been lifted, for now I know I can pay my regular bills and not be surprised when i check my checking account and there is nothing left due to debits and service fees.I will never take out another payday loan as long as I live.I feel like this my second chance to make things right. It will be a stuggle to make the payments on these payday loans, but now Im the one in control, and its a good feeling.
Lastly,I would like to once again thank everyone on this board for all your help and support. The Advice I have been given by all of you has helped me thru a very rough time in my life.I have not made any decisions about my debt without coming here first,to get advice. The road is still very rough ahead, but knowing I have such wonderful support here, just makes me know that there is a smooth road in the horizon.

Congratulations Twokidtwocat.
It is quite an accomplishment to be in control of your debt. I am beginning to get in control of mine and it is a wonderful feeling knowing that soon these debts will be eliminated.
My story Update
I am now in my second month of the consolidation program. Some of my creditors wanted a little more than was agreed at first, but they have agreed to stop late fees. :) :D
At this point,I should be debt free in about 22 months, and it feels great. They said the calls would stop after 3 payments were made, but they have already stopped calling, which is great. :o
My payments will remain the same,so that when one creditor is paid off, they will increase payment to those that I still owe.
I will keep everyone updated on how its going.Once Im done with this,I would like to buy a house, that would be my dream come true.
Once again, thanks to all you guys on this forum who have given me advice, consolidation would not have been a option for me,if I had not found this place. :D
Debbie Stay regular in your payments. This is very important.

Twokidtwocat,
Wow, how I can relate to your story. I too went through a divorce and then a bankruptcy down the road. That was a big mistake. I got caught up in the payday loan trap when I had to replace a tire on my car. I paid that one off and stay away from them for a long time. I think I had some bills to pay and wanted to do some X-mas shopping. I had to take out another on to pay that one, on and on. I've learned my lesson about these loan sharks. I'm finding out more information every day. I'm just glad that I am not alone. This forum has been a great help to me.

The best thing about this forum is finding out that your not alone. This board has helped me so much,if I had never found this board,I would have lost alot of money on a loan that turned out to be a scam.I learned alot about consolidation, and decided to join a program, which has been a blessing to me.I now have a place to come,if I have questions about my debt related issues. The people on this board are great, and I cant thank them enough.
Cats
Cats are a very underrated pet. Studies have shown that they do reduce stress and lower blood pressure for their human counterparts. I have one that is very effectionate and loves being picked up. She has been a great source of stress reduction in these trying times.

I wont let that get me down, since I know that Im on the road to being debt free. The best day will be when one creditor is paid off, and I can increase the payment to someone else.My son just got a parttime job,so now he can take care of his own needs, which is
a great burden lifted. My daughter just got a part in her high school production of West Side Story and will have a few solos in the schools broadway show, which is all she needs to make her happy. So,I can truly say,My life is really taking a change for the better.I have been blessed in so many way.

Just wanted to update my story.Ive now been in the consolidation program 4 months, one payday loan paid off and another payday loan changed my balance to paid in full after I put up a fight. So thats two paid off and two to go.Once these are paid off,I will only have my 4 credit cards,so Im looking at about a year,to be free of them all.Ya!!!My daughters concert was wonderful, she sang in a duet from 'Wicked',a group number from Mama Im a Big girl now,a short solo of 'Send in the clowns',a group solo (chair dance)for 'Hey big spender',a short solo 'Im flying'and last but not least, her big solo "People".I was the proudest mom there.Oh and a friend got a new computer, and gave me thier old one,so now I have a decent PC.Things are really looking up,I feel for the first time in a long time that things are really going to get better.
