does anyone know what collection agency this # is for, they don't give their names when they call, and it doesn't say their name when u call them 866-251-2396

thanks,
sharon

ps: the creditor is am express, but this is a collection agency

I guess it might be the number of CollectCorp collection agency. These people sound so abusive and threatening while they call people. They threaten that will take the funds from the checking account and even advice other banks to stop giving credit. I will suggest you to take every possible action so that collectcorp does not take commission from your account if they don’t become professional and courteous to the consumers.

I just received a VERY strange call from the same number 866-251-2396 some guy making quotes about education is power etc and not leaving his name or number. When I called back to the number, they checked their call log and could find no call to my number on their system. It was a VERY creepy call. My friend listened and she commented that he sounded disturbed. Did you ever find out who this company is?

thanks

I have been dealing with Collect Corp for the past few months. A week or so ago, I was given a settlement by one of their agents that I accepted. The deal was to take place the following Monday (deal was made on a Friday). Got a call from another agent saying the deal was no good. Have spoken to several different agents and nobody will honor the deal even though the agent (Michael Reid) re-affirmed the deal in a conversation I recorded that following Monday. These people are bad and do not honor their word. They lie and cheat and use abusive language to try and intimidate. I think they would sell their own family out if it meant a better commission.

Some guy called me this morning and said that I had an outstanding balance on an AmEx card. Since I don't have an AmEx card and I just received a credit report one month ago that showed that everything was in order, I knew immediately that this was a bogus phone call.

The person on the phone was very threatening and used abusive language (not very professional for someone claiming to be part of a business!).

The person had my name, but I was calling from a phone number different than the one they origally call, so they trace your calls. BEWARE, DO NOT CALL BACK FROM A NUMBER THAT YOU DON"T WANT THEM TO HAVE!!! Since I had such a strong suspicion that this was a bogus call, I asked them if they had any other personal information on me such as my social security number. They quoted me the last four digits which were completely wrong, so I hung up on them.

BEWARE... protect your identity... shred any documents that have any personal info on you... especially social security number.

This interaction gave me the creeps and makes me feel more vulnerable and reinforced the need to protect personal information.

Some inside info from a previous Manager with Collect Corp.
Amex requires that they verify all checks over $1000.00, that may be why you are getting that call. At then end of the month Managers use their discretion to run checks. They are actually going against Amex Policy for their agencies by doing this BTW.
If you were offered a settlement by Collect Corp, and now you are getting abusive calls from them telling you the deal is off. Simply call Amex, tell them that you were offered this settlement and now you are getting these kinds of calls from Collect Corp. Since Amex is very complaint sensitive, I am sure you will discover Amex will be more than happy to settle your debt and take your complaint.
