Advance fee loan scammers are making the news

(September 28, 2005, 4:22 p.m.) The Better Business Bureau is sending out a warning about two advance fee loan scams.

The BBB wants you to know about a Canadian-based Web site that is contacting consumers, claiming to be First Target Financial Institution on Lake Michigan Drive in Allendale. But that address does not exist.

The fake documents claim you can get a $20,000 fixed rate loan after you send them a 15-percent collateral payment.

The other scam deals with a company calling itself Freedom Trust out of Holland, which is touting an insurance trap.

24 Hour News 8 talked with the BBB which says you will see a lot more of these scams right now, as we approach the holiday season, and with the interest rates on the rise
