Can a charged off credit card balance (12yrs) be added to a newly opened account with the same credit card company? (The new account was opened when the bank bought another credit card issuer with whom I had an account in good standing.) Thank you.

If a debt is 12 years old, it does not mean that you're not obliged to pay it. Once the SOL for the said account is expired no legal action can be taken against you, but you still owe the debt.

It's quite possible that your old debts start showing in the new account with same creditor. I think it will be wiser to pay the amount back if the demanded amount is legitimate.
