I'm looking for a non-profit debt consolidation agency? What fees should I expect? One non-for profit doesn't make the first payment to my creditors until 30 days after I enroll and pay them a fee which is equal to the regular monthly payment to my creditors. Does that sound right? If I could afford to make two payments I wouldn't be in this situation. Any suggestions for agencies that don't have a high upfront fee? :?

Hi Cindy

Welcome to the forums.

After you enroll in a debt consolidation program, it becomes the responsibility of the company to complete your payments with the creditors. However, the upfront fee should not be as high as the monthly payments set in the program.

Though this company is not a non-profit organization but you will be charged a very nominal fee by the consultant working in your program. He will also offer you a free counseling and budgeting programs that will help you to keep a check on your finance.

The consultant will negotiate with your creditors and reduce the total amount of your debt. Your total debt will be free from all the financial charges and the late fees that make it a huge amount.

Since the counseling is absolutely free, it depends upon you if you wish to move further with this program. The program will get started only after you have given your consent for it.
