I just found this site tonite..I have been talking to debt consolidaters for a couple of weeks now and still can't make up my mind what to do. I've never had to worry about finances, if I got in a little too deep, just went out and got a 2nd job or did whatever I needed to pay it off then moved on. Unfortunately I got into the business of kids...and they all had family members and would leave and come back and it just snowballed!! I just kept telling myself, "don't worry, it won't take much to get them going, they'll pay me back, you can't let them go homeless.." I don't regret for a minute anything that I've done that got me into this mess but not being able to work now, I realize I have to stop this and get myself out before I can do anything else. So I will be here as often as possible since it seems to be a treasure cove of information and yes...it also helps to read about others who've fallen onto hard times and know that I'm not the only one out there!!
Thanks for the site and support...

It's good to see you posting around the forums. Have you ever thought about talking with a debt counselor in person? Or an attorney about your debt problems? Although an attorney on occasion will provide just bankruptcy details, a debt counselor can provide you with the other options available.

You do have a high debt, and although it can be paid off through debt consolidation, you mentioned that you weren't able to work. Doing debt consolidation will require a committment from you and an effort to make the payment each month. This is what's being paid on all your debt that has been reduced. You just need to be assured that the decision you'll be making is a right one.

By signing up on this site, a highly recommended debt consolidator will get in contact with you. The option is yours who you decide to go with.

Regards-
Mike

Thanks Mike..I have talked to many companies but only on the phone. It worried me because each one had such a drastically different plan and they all seemed to want to get their money up front...with no guarantee that MY bills would get taken care of. Some of them wanted me to give the money directly to them..that's a scary thought, how can I be guaranteed that they will pay off my debts? As I said..still looking into it, my main concern is to not get any more late fees or interst rate hikes. All of my cards were on low interest rate plans but just one late payment made them go way up..

You should get a monthly statement from your creditors as well as the consolidation company with whom you have enrolled in the program. The creditors will send you a monthly statement showing how much money has been paid to your account with the balance remaining. Also, the consolidation company will send you a monthly statement showing how your funds have been proportionately utilized while paying the different creditors you have.

Thanks for the info Ben..after reading this I talked to the counselor again and he said the same thing. I'm not sure all the time which questions to ask and I want to make the best decision...it helps so much to get these little bits of info to be able to go back and call them up and ask..thanks again!!
