I just have one or two questions. I am 68 years old living on fixed income. Can credit card companies take my house or put a lien on it?

The creditors will try to recover the money from you. If they don't receive the amount from you after repeated collection efforts, they will possibly put a judgment against you. Legal actions can be taken after they have received orders from the court.

It is better to inform your creditors well in advance about your financial situation before they take any such steps. You can convince them to work on a payment plan with you and follow it accordingly. This will avert most of the legal actions against you.
