how can I ensure a secure connection to the site

I am unable to make a secure connection to the site due to the "security certificate being invalid" My computer is telling me that my info may be viewed by third parties while in transit, and may not go to the correct destination.
I am still wary of entering my information.
What is the best way to protect your personal info? How can i ensure a secure connection, so I feel safe? :?
