Library reporting to credit bureaus
Date: Mon, 01/09/2006 - 20:18
Hi. If I'm not mistaken, a while back someone in here posted that a library had reported library fines to the three credit bureaus and it was causing them problems. I believe it was over a book that hadn't been turned in. I thought wow, thats strange, I've never heard of that before.
Sure enough, tonight I was watching the news and they did a report on this very same thing. A guy hadn't looked at his credit report in over a year, when he did, he found that the library had reported to the bureaus and was on his credit report. He said it was causing major problems for him and felt that the punishment far outweighed the deed.
guess I just wanted to share this. They can infact do this and I guess we will start to see it more and more. A collection agency for the libraries, said that its their way of putting money back into the system, that they're having a had time with funding and the only way to get what they need is to go after old fees and fines.

Wow,ifs thats the case, then they will need to do away with those
Wow,ifs thats the case, then they will need to do away with those drop boxes.I remember once,I dropped off a book in the box and it took them 3 months to find the book, and take if off my file.I had to use my sons card, because I refused to pay for a book that I had returned.I had to keep checking back on my own, they didnt even call me to tell me that they had found it.
The punishment outweighing the crime has no bearing on any issue
The punishment outweighing the crime has no bearing on any issue. It's very simple, if you take out a book, return it. Don't be so damn LAZY. Without placing this on his credit report it would NEVER be paid.
Shhhhhhhh
Good for the Librarians!!
