866-415-2399 - Does anyone know the company that belongs to this number?

Dawn, call the number 866-415-2399 back and request for the reason of placing the call to you. I guess after you have dialed the number and get connected, you might get the name of the company at the beginning. There is no information given on this number in the internet. My search displayed no results. If anyone else can help here!

I am being extra cautious at the moment because I am working on paying back some payday loan creditors. I will let you know if I can discover who they are.

I lucked out because the number on the caller ID was different, it was 866-415-2399, I didn't find out much info about them except that the are connected to NCO and their address is:
4640 W77th St STE 300
Minneapolis, MN 55435.
At least now I know who I am calling.

I believe NCO is a collection company. Possibly Nationwide credit???

If this is the Pennsylvania-based NCO Group, Inc. then they are the same who were heavily penalized for the violation of the FCRA laws. NCO paid the highest civil penalty ever obtained in a FCRA case. It's $1.5 million!!

NCO had a case against them for reporting inaccurate information of consumers to the credit bureaus.

So if I had an account with NCO, should I treat it differently than any others when I deal with it? Should I be more careful when I talk to them?

You should be proactive with all the collection agencies you deal with including NCO. Get everything in writing, document it in a file, and get receipts of each payments made to them. You should be sure that your payments are going to your creditors. In such a case, you can keep in touch with your OC and know the latest status of the account.
