I was served papers to appear in court March 9 for a debt of $2900 to an apt complex where I moved out of 3 months ago. This is the first notification I've gotten of any debt to them. Is it legal to sue me or get a judgment with no prior attempt to collect the deb?

Creditors hold the legal rights to take actions if you have defaulted on your payments. Try to settle the matter outside the court with your creditor because this will solve a lot of upcoming problems.

Make a payment arrangement with your creditor. Advance them some money to make your deal more effective. They will also be willing to work with you as there is court cost involved in filing the case legally. Once a plan has been set, do not default on your payments. Otherwise, situation will take a worse shape.

If you are unable to get the positive results of your negotiation, consult a debt counselor. He knows how to handle such situations and might be able to get the positive results for you.

Ls, it is very important to respond to the legal papers served to you. If you do not appear in the court, the creditors will take further actions against you on your failure. Moreover, the judge will take decisions in the favor of the plaintiff and you will have to pay for the damages.

Show your presence on the hearing date and present your case. This will do good to you.
