Somewhat off topic, but I am so proud!

I also have a fiance that can not stand to have $1 in his pocket..It has to be spent. :-P
Today, he called and wanted to go the Hometown Buffet. I thought about it a second, because I like their food--and even more, I like not having to cook it. :)
Instead of saying, "Yes, let's go!" I said, "That's a lot of money to spend for macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes..." YAY!
I'm becoming a tightwad, and I love it. :)

Hi jd5351
You must be feeling happy that you were able to control your temptations for good reasons surely. Taking control is the most important factor while you are in the struggling times.
Today, if you would have gone to the buffet, maybe you would have added some more to your expenses. But saying no to it means that you have saved some best moments for the last. :D
Some time later, you will definitely cherish these moments when your mind is in PEACE. :D

jd,
Saying ???NO' at the right time is an art and I feel you are on your way to learn it. Life does not go smoothly all the time. It's better to accept the fact. If your pocket does not permit you to go to Hometown buffet, then there is no shame in saying it.
Hope one day you will call him and offer a treat at Hometown Buffet. Best of luck.

Good for you jd! I know it can be hard but learning to save is a great benefit. It's something I am finally learn to do myself. I just think of the groceries I can buy with the money of going out to eat.

Same here, my GF also does not like cooking. But at the same time, we just can't hang out everyday. It will become quite expensive. So, we like to load our fridge to the maximum and go for a real good buffet once in a month. This adjustment suits our pocket.

Way to go guys!!! this is the same attitude that I have taken lately, and I'm really excited about it!!!! Cause you know what? We're squeezing tight right now to pay off some things, which will mean MORE MONEY IN OUR POCKETS LATER! So it will not go UNREWARDED!!! It might suck that we're having to say to no to the buffets and other fun things, but they're not going anywhere!! We'll pass them up for now--but will have money later on to do what we want and by then, we will have peace of mind as well!!! My husband loves to eat out---but we're staying at home, and I haven't bought groceries lately, we're eating food out of our freezer. We're eating up some stuff that has been in there for a while, which needs to be eat, and also saving on the grocery bill. which is really good since I am trying to pay off some things.
As I said, we might not be having fun right now, but our efforts will not go unrewarded!
We've been eating an awful lot of potatoes lately...lol Mashed
We've been eating an awful lot of potatoes lately...lol Mashed potatoes...scalloped potatoes..Fried potatoes....Hmm I'm starting to sound like Bubba Gump. :) We bought too many potatoes at the store last time and we have to get rid of them before they grow those creepy vines.

Shirley,
Way to go but there are fun things you can find to do that are free or cost very little. I took my stepson to a museum, free admittance, and he had a great time. One thing I've done, instead of buying books, I actually go to the library now. I haven't done that in years and I love to read. My hubby and I started an envelope system too. We also have one for entertainment that we'll use once a month. Little changes over time and we learn a whole new way of living. I don't want to get back into the situation I am in now. I just recently found a part-time job on the weekends so that will help out so much.

Mishele, we have four kids and when they were little, we used to go to the library all the time and we also took them to the park alot---because it was something to do, it got us out of the house and it was free. We still go to the library. My daughter was raised in the library and she has became a bookworm! But she is sooo intelligent and I believe that its partly due to her love for books and reading from the start of a early age. sometimes we go down to the mississippi river in downtown memphis and sit and just watch the water and tug boats. They have a park down there and sometimes we will make a picnic to take. Its free. But unfortunately everything else around here cost. Memphis charges for everything. My husband drives to st louis every day and he says the zoos and everything up there is FREE but they charge you big time to get in the zoo here, they even charge you to park. And the tickets went up since we got the panda bears. But we took our daughter during the christmas holidays. They had 'zoo lights' where they decorated the zoo with christmas lights and opened it up at night. THe tickets were much cheaper then so we thought it would be fun. anyways, sorry, got alittle off subject there. :D shirley
I love the zoo! :) But they do charge quite a bit up here too.
I love the zoo! :) But they do charge quite a bit up here too. I think it's around $10, and the charge around $5 for parking.
I'm a big "dollar movie" fan...We have 2 theatres up here, and they both are 50 cents on tuesdays! :) I work tuesdays currently though..Stupid retail with those long hours. Sometimes I'm not too worn out though to see a later movie.
