I have a car loan from 1999-present. I have not paid on it since 2000. The car was totaled from a accident which I didn't get enough money back from the car insurance to pay off. My ex has not paid his part on it. I am remarried and we are wanting to buy a house. But I have this hanging over me. what canI do?

salg, this delinquency is nearing the seven years mark stay in your CR as per the FCRA laws. So, in legal terms, your credit report should not reflect this item some time later.

The negative stay is calculated for a period of seven years beginning from the date of first reporting. However, it is upon the creditors if they want to take any actions against you within this period and seize the item.

In case, you are required to pay the debt, you will pay only your portion of the debt. Show your divorce decree to the creditors for making your point legal.
