Could someone explain "re-aging" an account

Before I request a settlement, I want to make sure I completely understand this term.

The simple way to define this term is bringing the account to current status. Creditors or collectors are not allowed to reage the accounts, i.e.. changing the dates of last activity or changes dates as it changes companies. This implies that they are trying to withhold the negative information in your file for longer period. This is a violation as per the Consumer Protection afforded by the FCRA and if done, you can sue the party up to the extent of the damages.
