Would I have to eliminate all my credit cards or would I be able to keep one?

Susan, you can keep one card aside while you are enrolled in the consolidation program. It can be used in case of emergencies.

You can wish to include any accounts in this program. Once they are consolidated, the payments will be sent to your creditors through your consolidators and the debt will keep slashing down with your regular payments.

We kept one card out of our consolidation. It has a low limit $500. It wasn't any problem to not include it, even though we had other cards with the same lender that we did include in the consolidation. I am keeping it for emergencies and travel (in the case of travel, we would pay that expense off immediately).
It is just so hard to do things like rent a car without a credit card. We felt it was important to keep one small card, we did choose one with a low limit so as not to get ourselves in trouble again. :lol

I think this is the perfect way to prepare yourself and control the budgeting. We know that if we are keeping one card outside the program for emergencies, we need to be always alert on that specific card so that it does not take a bad shape. If we can slowly make that two cards and give the same attention that we give to the one card now, we will learn some good techniques of budgeting. Later, we can think of making it three and so on.
