Cureently trying to work to cleanup my credit. I have three account that are way past due. Two of which I know what they are and have issue paying them off. The third is from an Assett Acceptance LLc, which I have no clue as to what it is or what account it is. As a whole i only owe less than 1,000 dollors and have no problem paying it but i have heard read the horror stories about Assett Acceptance LLC and do not wish to go through the same. What would be the best way to deal with the company? Call them and ask what account this is, in turn will this start the collection agency sending letters and what not to my place of residence? I do not want to give them my phone number for sure. Any and all suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
On another note what is the best way to build credit once I have paid off these past due accounts?

Thank you,

jaime

First of all, if you do not want Asset Acceptance to have your phone number, better find some other place to call them from. Get a calling card, then call them from a payphone. Because if you call from a friend or families house, Asset will get that number and start harrassing them.
Second, I would not call unless you have the money to pay in full, or can manage really large payments, because these guys WILL NOT work with you...they are rude, hateful and demanding...and they don't care about your circumstances.
Third....do not pay them anything until you know exactly what you owe, and have it in writing...I would not do a check by phone with these guys either..do not give them your bank account info, in fact be very limiited on the info you give them...verify the info they have on you..but do not give them anymore than what they have.
Hope this helps a little.

Jaime, TMD has given you the perfect insight on how to deal with Asset. Do not give your personal information until you are sure about them holding a legitimate account. Ask them to validate your debt in writing. Review it thoroughly before you make a payment agreement.

Do not use your personal phone for contacting them. As TMD said, call them from a payphone.

Check your credit report and see if Asset has hit your file with any remarks. If they don't have a legitimate purpose, they should not enter any information in your file. You can dispute and force them to remove the item from your file.

Your first move will be to ask for a debt validation of this account. If they have not sent you any letters, send it from your side. Use certified mail with return receipt requested and keep copies documented in a file.

After the accounts that are past due get paid, the creditors will report them to the bureaus as 'paid'. Full payments of a debt account improve your credit largely. You can contact your creditors and make payment arrangements with them. If you pay it through easy monthly installments, you can use a debt management program. The monthly payments will be much lower than the minimums set with your creditors.
