I have just reciently saw on my online statements of my credit cards that some of my accts. have been charged-off? What does that mean? and what can I do about it?

Creditors mark the account as 'charged off' when they have failed to collect the debt from you within 120 days. Charged off account is a negative remark in your credit report and will lower the credit scores.

It is possible that this account has been sent to some collection agency for further collections or the debt has been sold to them.

If you consider paying this account, be sure to check the statutes. All states have specific statutes within which a debt is legally required to be paid. If you fail to pay the debt within the legal collection period, creditors can take actions against you. But if the debt is past the statutes, you can't be forced into any legal actions.

SOL is calculated from the date of last activity in your account as well as the state where this account originally occurred.
