Hi, I just pulled my credit report and much of my !5k debt shows charged off. I ahve a laywer or two coming after me. Can I still do any type of debt consolidation? If so, can I get a better pay off rate since the original debtor sold my account? Some of the companies want me to pay half and they will go away but I can't do half right now.
Thanks, Hope

Hi

Welcome on the board!

Most of your debts are in the charged off status. At this situation, you must make sure if the statutes on these debts are still active or they have expired. If the SOL is past on these accounts, you can't be legally forced to pay them. Check the date of last activity in each account and see the SOL in your state. You will understand which of the accounts can pursue creditor's attention and which one can be legally escaped.

Do not make any payment agreement otherwise the account that is past the SOL will become active and you will have no options but to pay it.

After you have reviewed all the accounts, you can take consolidation program for repaying them through easy monthly payments. Your consultant will negotiate with your creditors and make arrangements to reduce the total amount. You will draw one check to the consolidation company and they will pay your creditors.

You can start your counseling from the consultant after registering here in this website. You won't be charged anything for this service. You will be offered guidance on all your accounts and better repayment options.
