I have been receiving calls from a company name United Processing telling me I owe $730 and if I pay $100 now I can pay the rest in two installments but if not then the authorities will be at my job. I asked the person I spoke with named Ashley Davis to fax me a copy of what I received and how it accrued to what I owe to date despite her threatening me she said she didn't threaten me but I asked her to send me what I asked for and hung up on her. I am going to call her back and inform her not to call my job anymore and if she do I will be recording the calls from now on.

If you can get their address, I would sent them a cease and desist letter via certified mail with return receipt requested. This way you will have proof that they received it. You can also fax it to them before you mail it. I do this quite often. No they can't have you arrested and it's illegal for them to say those types of things. You can file a complaint online with the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

This is what I replied to you in the previous post

Quote:

Richelle, you can't be sent to jail for not paying the debt. If the debt is legitimate, you will have to pay the account or else there can be a chance of judgment against you.

Ask the company to follow the fdcpa laws and give you the details of the account in writing. They are required to send the details within 5 days after placing the initial phone call. If you have not received anything in the mail, send a debt validation letter to the company's mailing address. The federal laws allow you to refuse payment until the account is validated. Send your letter certified with return receipt requested so that you can prove your actions.

If you do not want to receive the phone calls at your work or home, you can force them to cease and desist all communications with you. Leave the options to be contacted by mail only so that you are informed about their actions.

Check the state laws before recording the phone calls. Some states allow that the recording can be done secretly. But in the remaining few, you will have to take the permission of both the parties. In which state do you live, so that I can confirm you the laws in your state?
