Hi piptay
Welcome to the forums.
Whoever can prove the account details holds the stronger voice. Asset does not have anything to prove that you owe this account.
Check your previous bank statements when this account was paid or any old copy of your credit report that confirms the payment. You will have to try finding some old documents about this account.
The statutes of limitation in California for credit card debts expire after 2 years from the date of last activity.

thank you
Thanks Roxette i cant find a thing to say that its paid i no longer have the account at that bank and i never looked at my credit file before stumbling across this site.
but i never disputed the debt i told the person that called that i was sure that i settled the account and he said he would look into it.
well im am sending this letter of verification that i got from this site and see what they say.
thanks again for the info.

piptay...check with your bank. If you paid by check they may still have something on it. My bank keeps copies of checks in their files for 7 yrs. If they don't have a copy of the check..they should still have your bank statements archived for up to 7yrs. It may take time for them to get it... but it is worth a shot. Good luck.

if u are updated on the laws, asset has to put the date they bought the account under the open date, its not the date u opened the account its just a date we bought your account and started to report, u will see two lines on your cbr, one from us and one from the creditor, the date on the creditors is the one that is true as to when u opened the account, but always remember depending on what state ur in the sol starts when the account goes past due and the gets charged off, not by the open date, ask anyone who can read a cbr correctly and they will tell u its not incorrect reporting its just the credit companies force companies llike mine to report the date we buy your account, hope that helps
