I just had the sweetest group of customers ever..

For those who don't know, I sell beds. (Wait...If my corporate office is reading this, I CHANGE LIVES!..hehe)

An older couple came in (older as in early 70's) with their son, who recently had a stroke. They didn't have a heck of a lot of money, and had to look at real low-end..

There was no way these people were going to be able to carry this bed by themselves, and I would have felt like a jerk letting them..But I also knew they weren't going to like me telling them that our delivery service charges $59.99...

So, me being the sap I am..:) I gave them free delivery and upgraded their frame for free--I couldn't sleep tonight knowing that the roller frame could have went rolling out from underneath this poor guy. Free delivery and upgrading to a frame that is $40 more in cost on a $200 sale is killer on margin, which is how we get paid, but I just couldn't do it.

So, I probably made about 90 cents in commission on the sale...I would have made closer to $7-$8 otherwise. But I just couldn't be a salesperson on this one.

The lady gave me a hug...I wanted to cry....lol

So I guess our company policy is correct. :) We do change lives. :)

Jessi

Sometimes it's the service that you provide that will end up paying out in the future. When you provide exceptional service to someone, they'll end up going out and telling a few people. Whereas you provide terrible service, or aren't willing to "cut a deal", they'll go out and tell the world. Chances are a cousin or neighbor will be coming in to visit you, and buy 3 new beds sometime in the next year. Your commission check will balance out, and probably even then some!

Thanks for being a softie. The world needs more people like you.

Regards-
Mike

Hi Jessi! Its very heartening to know that people like you still exist in this world. That is why the world is still a place to live in. With people becoming so much self-centred, the inner touch is missing from everybody. Its people like you who show us the way to live the right way.
See in terms of business you may have lost out on a few dollars but you have won the hearts of many. Customer service is one of the most important things in sales. The issue is not only to create a customer but the even tougher challenge is to retain him. Because through that only you can acquire customer loyalty. Your service can spread like a forest fire through the word of mouth and may be you will get many more customers buying lot costlier beds. From that you will be able to earn much higher commission.
So hats off to you once again. You have done a commendable job.

It was nice to help them out. :) Sometimes it's not worth it so much to give someone a really good deal, because usually it means they're going to be a pain in the neck. I'm dealing with a guy right now that one of our former employees gave a deal to, and now he's coming in wanting the same deal--Problem is, after the hurricanes there was a cost increase due to 2 factories that make a certain chemical that is used in polyeurathane (I cant spell) foam being wiped out. I CAN NOT give him the same deal. Annoying..lol
