On Tuesday my husband will be having surgery. We found out yesterday that we have to pay $400.00 on Monday because of the deductible. When I told them that we can't come up with that kind of money by Monday, the ENT clinic agreed to bill it after the insurance pays. Now we will owe $1600.00 after the insurance pays. Does it ever end? There goes us seeing daylight.

I sorry to hear this Tammy, but maybe they will work out payments with you that you can afford.I know every payday I look at the $300 a month that they take out for insurance, and think of what I could do with that extra money, but then you never know what could happen. One emergency pretty much takes care of what I pay in a year.I just worry now about my son, since he will have to come off my insurance in April when he turns 19.He only has a pt job right now, which means no insurance.
Good luck Tammy, and I hope everythings ok with your hubby.

Even with good insurance the medical bills can eat you up. Because you have so many small bills and they all want their money now! From one surgery I had bills from the multiple doctors, two hospitals, anethesiologist, histopathy, radiology, ambulance, and a few others I can't recall. The bills themselves ranged from around $500 to $25. And they all wanted paid right away. Not to mention the fact that you are out of work during your recovery! My DH had to stay home to care for me and the baby, who was only 3.5 months old. Fortunately he was able to take sick leave, but still he wasn't able to earn any overtime. It is a vicious circle!

They will more than likely take payments. They usually even will give you paperwork for HCAP, which can reduce the amount that you'll owe, and then they'll take payments. They can not turn you away because of you're inability to pay if it's medically necessary. Talk to them when you get there, they should be able to help you out.

Tammy,

I'm so sorry to hear about your hubby. I will prayer for a speedy recovery for him. I know this would upset me as well. With all the money we shell out for insurance, and you still have to fight for some kind of payment arrangment. My medical bills always go through my insurance company before I have to pay anything unless I'm just going on a regular doctor visit. At least I have a low co-pay for that. I'm sure they will make arrangments with you guys. Hang in there. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do for you. :)

Sorry to hear about your hubby,I had sinus surgery some years back, not fun! As far as your medical bills, when my son was younger(8 mo.) until he was in junior high we had hospital and medical bills. We were paying some type of dr. or hospital for years. After the insurance took care of their part, I was upfront with them and told them I needed to make payments, and all of them let us.Of course they will try to get full amount, but did work with us. I lost my job and health insurance a year ago and now deal with what medicines I can afford or not. I found out,as I get older something is either falling off or growing on me!! Hang in there there is still that light, you are just in a fork where you cannot see it yet. Best of Luck

Another thing that really pisses me off is that hubby has to have the surgery. We will have 30 days from receipt of bill to pay $1600.00. I have been trying to figure out how and no matter how I rearrange things, I will not be able to come up with it. If I let the house go, they foreclose, if i let my van payment go then they reposse. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or has anyone ever experienced anythig like this? We are really stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Wow...that is completely ridiculous. Why would they not let you make payments, that doesn't make any sense, regardless of your income. Don't they know that payments are better than no money at all? Are they still going to do the surgery then? I wonder if you have some kind of state assistance with this type of thing out there? :(

Tammy

Chances are the person you spoke with was having a bad day. Or maybe they weren't willing to put in any effort on telling you other options.

Was this a private practice ENT clinic? If this was done at a hospital, you have the option of making payments. Most hospitals prefer payment in full, and even include signs in most clinics (Payment expected at time of service, etc).

The clinic is West TN ENT Clinic affliated with Jackson Madison General. It will be done at the hospital on outpatient basis al long as nothing goes wrong. We have bc/bs and the hospital and dr is in the ppo program. They are suppose to take what the isurance pays in the ppo network. Another gripe I have is that by the time we pay our bills every two weeks we have enough left for gas for both vehicles, groceries for 6 people for 2 weeks, lunches for the kids at school. We have a grand total of $100.00 to last two weeks.
